While traditional methods often face challenges with ecological validity (real-life applicability) and standardization, VR could bridge this gap by simulating realistic crime scenarios in controlled environments.

By immersing participants in VR scenarios, researchers can test how individuals recall and verbalize events with high accuracy, offering insights into memory processes. For example, truthful statements typically contain vivid autobiographical details, while fabricated ones often lack emotional depth and coherence. VR provides the advantage of knowing the exact “ground truth” of a scenario, ensuring accurate validation of analytical tools.
