While unarmed, Spot is equipped with a manipulating arm for handling suspicious devices and features two-way communication for negotiations in high-risk scenarios. Funded by a $328,000 grant, this cutting-edge tool underscores the growing role of robotics in public safety. Beyond explosives, Spot’s potential includes aiding tactical operations, ensuring officer safety in hazardous situations, and even community engagement. DPD plans to integrate it into public events to familiarize residents with the technology.
